    Good day,

i just want to find out if house/rent allowance should be taxable or not and which is the correct code to use?

    Kind regards,

      Hi Zodwa

Payments in cash towards private expenses are always taxable, in most cases 100% of such an allowance will be included in an employee’s gross taxable earnings. A housing or rent allowance is completely taxable and can be reported against code 3713 – Other Taxable Allowances on the employee’s tax certificate. In Pastel Payroll, you can make use of transaction code 5740 to process the allowance on the employee’s payslip. If the allowance is not paid in cash but the employer is paying accommodation on behalf of the employee, then a fringe benefit must be processed using transaction code 6080 and IRP5 reporting code 3801.
