New Release – Pastel Payroll 2013 Update 1a

Pastel Partner Payroll 2013 Update 1a is available and can be downloaded as a Frictionless Update provided you have installed version 2012 Update 2b. We have found that during the Payroll Run, exceptions for medical aid transactions are generated for employees in cases where no exception should occur.  This has been fixed.

    When I attempt to install Update 1a, I receive the following error message: “This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.”
    Please assist.

      Please can you try to clear your temp folder. To do this please go to start and type c:\windows\system32\cleanmgr.exe

      Make sure your temp folders are selected and then select OK to clear them. Please try again with the update.

    Can you please help me?

    We are using Pastel Payroll Multi-user, we have Pastel on my computer (the server) and we also have Pastel on one other computer (a workstation).
    The update installed on both was 2013 update 1, this morning when I opened Pastel on my computer it asked me if I want the new update to run (2013 update 1a). I clicked yes, the update was completed but then it didn’t give me the option to run it on the other computer. So now the server is on 2013 update 1a and the workstation is on 2013 update 1.

    So if I want to open a company on the workstation it gives me an error message saying the following: “You are attempting to open a company that has already been converted. Please update to the latest version of Pastel Payroll before continuing.”

    Whenever I check on the website for a new update, the latest is 2013 update 1????

      Good Afternoon,

      Our Website has not been updated with the new version that is 2013 Update 1a

      Please do the following on your workstation, where the payroll Icon is please right click on it and go to properties. On the shortcut tab you will see a target. Please copy and paste this in:

      “C:\ProgramData\Partner Payroll\DeployitUpdate.exe” /s App=”C:\Payroll\Pastel Payroll.lnk”

      I think your target for you Icon is not pointing to the right directory.

        Maritsa, thank you for the quick reply, unfortunately my Pastel is still not working.
        I have tried the above, it doesn’t allow it.
        The message is something about the path not valid.
        How soon will the update be available for download on the website or anywhere?
        I have noticed this morning that the system wants to update atomatically again to 2013 update 1b; which is obviously also not available for download yet. It seems to me that this update thing is getting out of hand.
        Please help.

        Please can you open the payroll on your server and say yes when it wants to update to 2013 Update 1c. When the update is finished please go to your payroll directory on your server. Open your C:\Payroll\Custom\Updates directory. You will see that all the updates have been downloaded here.
        To update your workstation you need to run the update 2013 Update 1a and 2013 Update 1c.
        I will get someone to contact you regarding your link so that this does not happen again.

    When I opened Pastel today I was asked if I would like to update to 2013 Update 1b. I said yes. I have now discovered that there are no SDL figures for any employees in any of my companies.

      Thank you for your post. Because of your post we discovered the cause of the error. We have fixed it last night and will be releasing a fix this morning.

    using the FA, so automatically udpated to 2013, 1a, now every time you open pastel (ir of payroll or accoutning), message comes up of windows installer wants to locate the files, please wait… any idea (3 clients so far complaining about this.)

        We tried to phone you but unfortunately you were not available. Please can you try the below on your clients?
        Go to your payroll directory and go to c:\payroll\custom\updates.
        Make sure your payroll is closed and then double click on the folder of the version that you are currently on. Please run the update again. If you have a later version available in the updates folder please run that version also and then open payroll.

    i have updated to the latest version and the medical is not calculating the same on all employees that have medical aid – same plans. Should there be medical aid tax under benefits?

      Dear Heidi

      The medical aid Tax credits that you get is based on how many dependants you have. So the amounts can be different based on how many depends that employee has. If the company pays part of the medical aid then this amount will be a benefit and this should be on the benefits tab as 6172 – Medical Aid Fringe Benefit

        Hi Leone
        Please try the following steps:
        1. Make a backup
        2. Uninstall Payroll from control panel -> add & remove programs
        3. If you have a problem uninstalling the do the following:
        3.1. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/
        3.2. Select Windows under problem area
        3.3. Select Install or upgrade software or hardware and then Select Install or remove programs under what are you trying to do
        3.4. Select the Run Now for the options that they give you under View or run solutions
        3.5. Please follow the rest of the prompts and select to uninstall Pastel Payroll

        4. Reinstall Pastel Payroll from your disc – NB: it must be 2012 update 2b, or later, otherwise it won’t work. Or you can download this version fromhttp://www.pastelpayroll.co.za/Pastel-Payroll-Software-Product-Updates/Pastel-Payroll-Software-Download-Latest-Version.asp. Just be advised that the download is just over 300Mb.
        5. Once installed Payroll will pull down the updates accordingly until it has finished with the latest update.

    I am having huge issues with Pastel at the moment. I am not able to get into some companies and I have now created a new company and after putting in all the information under set up assistant I get the error code 46, File code 110, opcode 2. I have received the similar error code when I am trying to create a copy company during year end. The error code is 46, file code 20, opcode 3. These companies are then blocked completely.

      Error 46 is Access To File Denied. If this is a standalone computer then please go to c:\payroll and right click on C:\Payroll and then select “Properties”. Please take all ticks off from “Read Only” and then say “Apply” and then “OK”.
      If this on a workstation then please do the same on the server’s payroll directory and also make sure that you have full rights to the payroll directory on the server.

        I have done this but it is still happening. When I go back into properties on the payroll folder the read only box is ticked again. This is a stand alone computer for payroll. I am running Pastel Accounting as a server from this computer as well.

    I just want to thank you for your help today.
    Someone from Pastel phoned me earlier today, he stayed on the phone with me for 19 minutes until my problem was fixed. He also explained to me how I can fix this myself should this problem occur in future.

    Hi there,
    I have found the support to be very unsatisfactory for pastel payroll. I have tried today without success to phone and e-mail about a workstation application error I receive one our workstations. The server update was very problematic with error “This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.”
    I managed to resolve this myself, but the connecting workstation to the server is installed correctly and registered but when I try to open a company I get a
    Runtime error -2147221503 (80040001) The application is not valid. Please specify the correct application path.
    I have verified all the correct filesystem rights and the package is registered.
    I get this error even when I try to open the local DEMODATA company.
    I will appreciate a response. This all happened after the update to 13 1 and subsequently update to 13 1c.
    Happy to supply more troubleshooting information if required.

      Please can you open the payroll on the workstation and then go to Utility…Manage Server. Remove the server and then locate the Server again. The server will be on you server under the payroll directory…Custom…Registration. Please then add your companies again on the workstation.

        I have the same problem in Payroll 2014, I installed the server to a NAS and registered it, it is activated and registration details are fine. When I try to open a company, I also get the error “Run-time Error -2147221503 (80040001) The application is not valid. Please specify the correct application path.

        I removed server and added again… but the problem does not go away.

        My Pastel partner is installed the same, and we have no issues n the workgroup…

        Please could you help me also?

    I’m getting the following error….
    “This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.”
    After going into an employee file system hangs and the only way to close it down is through task manager…
    Tried clearing temp folder – no change.
    Single user, standalone machine. WinXP SP3
    Any comments ?

    I am not getting a reponse to my request for help by email. I cannot do the Update 2013 1a. It continues to pop up with “This patch package could not be opened> etc”

      Please can you go to your payroll directory and go to c:\payroll\custom\updates.
      Please close you payroll and then double click on the folder of the version that you are currently on. Please run the update again. If you have a later version please run that version also and then open payroll. In your case you will double click on the Payroll2013Update1 folder and then run Payroll2013Update1.exe Please then also run the Payroll2013Update1a.exe version again and then open payroll so that the next update can download.

    I have updated my program using the 2013 version, I have run the payslips and is getting a exception report for my medical aid employees. please could someone help me resolving this urgently. I’ve been trying to get a hold of johannesburg branch but still can’t get through.

        I have done the downloads to 2013 update 1c and the medical aid taxes are still incorrect. So frustrating not being able to get hold of pastel jhb branch.

        When I print the EMP201 report that shows PAYE, the tax is not the same amount as printed and calculated on payslips and Payroll Summary.

        This was fixed in Pastel Payroll 2013 Update 1c. Please make sure that you are on that version and have done a legislative release.

    Please help, I have done my March salaries, and rolled over – I now have increases for April, and when I did the new payslips to show my employee what she would get out in April, my Medical aid credit “code8000” is zero. She is not getting the tax credit? Isn’t this a monthly credit?

Click Ok to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package “Pastel Payroll.msi” Then the following appears the installation source for this product is not available. Verify the source exists and then you can access it.

      What was the last DVD that you used to install Pastel Payroll? Did you have the Pastel Payroll 2012 Update 2 DVD or the 2b DVD?

        It seems that files are missing.
        Please can you go to Start…Control Panel…Programs and Features and then please remove Pastel payroll.
        Please can you then use your new CD that you got and install the payroll again?
        When you open payroll please select Yes to download the updates and let them install.

        We are unable to uninstall the software, we get exactly the same error as when we try and do the update. It also seems that I can’t do an installation when it is already installed (like a repair).

    We are still waiting for some one to contact us. I went and installed pastel on another pc I am on Update 1c now I’ve done a legislative release. I have a problem with the medical aid tax credit now. Both 8000 and 8002 have amounts in them but the 6172 has no amount in so the effect is zero. Please help.

    Update 2013 not installing, Keeps saying cannot find Pastel Payroll.msi.
    I have cleaned out the Temp files, Reinstalled the windows installer.

    Run System cleaners. Still with no luck.
    System is Windows XP service Pack 3
    Update from Pastel Payroll 2012 version 2b to Pastel Payroll 2013 version 1

      I am having the same problem as Ettienne and it doesn’t look like anyone has any answers on this update problem. Please somebody help!! I have phoned pastel and they say that my antivirus program deleted this .msi file, I went through the quarantine file and there was no sign of this missing .msi file. Please HELP!!

    When I try to open Pastel Payroll it gives a window with the message: Please wait while Windows configures Pastel Payroll 2013 update 1c. during this process I get an error message: Error 1334 The file ‘_C15804A1D31FAB7E5363779D25A6450D’cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file ‘Data 1.cab’ How can I fix this?

    I am in the UK until October and intend attending to clients needs from here. As luck would have it my hard drive crashed yesterday. I have one here which I am using and downloaded Update 12b. When I run the installation I get the following error message – Installation wizard completed. The wizard was interrrupted before Pastel Payroll updat 12b could be completely installed. I have changed security settings, country and disconnected from the internet but still get the same message. I have tried on another pc with the same results. How can I over come this ?

      If you have an active internet connection on the computer where Pastel Payroll is installed, the software will automatically check for the latest product registration code after you validated your account details online. If your Annual Licence Fee is still outstanding, you will have the option to view and pay your invoice online. Simply follow the prompts when the software tries to complete the automatic online renewal. In the case where an active internet connection is not available, please visit http://www.pastelpayroll.co.za or contact us on +2711 304 4000 for assistance
