President Jacob Zuma announced today that South Africa’s National General Elections will be held on 07 May 2014.

This weekend is the last chance for eligible voters to register for this year’s elections if they have not done so already. Voting stations will be open from 08:00 am to 05:00 pm on 08 and 09 February 2014 to assist with last minute voter registrations.
To date, the voter’s roll has reached the target of 80% set by the Electoral Commission in the following provinces:
Eastern Cape 82.8%
Free State 82.4%
Northern Cape 80.6%
In Gauteng, only 72% of the voting age population have registered to date and in the Western Cape, Mpumalanga and North West the percentages are not much higher.
